DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS WAS AT 11.59PM ON 16TH MARCH 2017. WE ARE UNABLE TO ACCEPT ANYMORE AS THE DESIGN IS NOW UNDERWAY. THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO SPONSORED THEIR NAME WHICH RAISED A STAGGERING £30,000 TOWARDS THE PROJECT.
Renowned public artist, Gordon Young has designed the Calverley Community Wall to recognise all those who have sponsored the Calverley Adventure Grounds project. Gordon has drawn on his 20 years experience making public art around the country to create something unique for Calverley.
By sponsoring, your name (either business, school, community club, church, family or individual) will be designed by Gordon to fit across a number of corten panels mounted along the wall adjacent to the site, creating a stunning back drop to the play area. See who you could be joining!
Corten, a wonderfully rich-hued material, used in landscaping, architecture and sculpture, was chosen as a subtle reference to the iron-rich Chalybeate Spring that helped found Tunbridge Wells. The panels, to be made locally by Contracts Engineering Ltd, will aesthetically compliment the wood of the play equipment and the sandstone wall upon which they are mounted.
About Gordon Young
Gordon’s work can be seen all around the country. He has created projects as diverse as a series of 20m sculptural/climbing walls in Blackpool, a forest of typographic trees in Crawley Library, a Wall of Wishes in a Bristol school, and a cursing stone in Carlisle. His latest and most ambitious project to date is the Comedy Carpet, an 2,200m² granite typographical pavement made up of jokes, songs and catchphrases of comedians and writers which will be permanently installed on the new promenade in front of Blackpool Tower.
